Has anyone done anything like this before?

We want dynamic page headings in categories - The 1st / root category name plus the last sub.

So in this sub category:
Dogs, Hunting, Long-hair, Flat-coated Retriever
The page heading would be: Dogs, Flat-coated Retriever
We have found posts on current category and full bread-crumb but not this exactly.
Any help would be appreciated.
