Default Variants... Should they all show?

I am a new user. Just started setting up and item.

So, it is a pair of pants. I was thinking of having a separate variant for each color it comes in and then use "color" field for waist and "size" field for length. I thought that having a separate variant for each color could help break it out.

However, it appears only one variant shows on the product detail page (the default). It seems it is one or the other.

Am I grasping this or is there only one variant to be show? Can I show multiple variants?

Make sure that the 'Display Format XML Package' that you have set in Product Manager is a variant XML package. If you don't have that set to a package with 'variant' in the name, it'll only display the default variant.
