Default Problem with passwords not encrypting

I have an urgent problem with passwords for new users (and for the admin user when we tried to change the password) not encrypting in the Customer db table, even AFTER I restart the site. They still appear as plain text and the user (including the Admin account) gets an "Invalid login" error at login page.

    Any ideas?

Never heard of this before. In order for the software to encrypt the passwords, the saltkey field should be equal to -1 in the customer table. What version are you on?
