    Default Call to Order Product

How does one purchase an item that is Call to Order, through the admin interface? I want customers to call for one particular item, but I need to be able to place the order through the Phone Order Entry screens. It is a name-your-own-price item, where some complicated formulas are used to determine the price, so needs to be done administratively.

Is call to order even the right attribute to use?

    Thanks,
    Sarah

Yep! 'Is Call To Order' is the correct field, yes. If that is set to Yes, a "Call to Order" prompt is displayed to customers, and there are no "buy" buttons.

Question But how does one then place an order for the customer?

Yes, but then how does a store admin go about actually placing the order through the storefront software?

That's forever a 'Call to Order' item even if it's placed in the phone order entry. The best you can do is to create a duplicate for that item (same name, description, etc) and enable 'Customer Enters Price' attribute. See this manual

Or, change it back to having a buy button, put it in your basket, and then change it back to 'Call to Order'.

Or, change the XMLPackage to detect whether the page request is coming from your IP Address and change 'Call to Order' buttons to 'Add to Cart' buttons.
