Default click tracking on related or upsell items on product detail page

Has anyone done any development on trying to track the performance of Upsell or Related items? It would great to know if any of the items that are rendered in this area of the product detail page ever make it to the cart. We're trying to find a system that would allow us to look at an orders cart items and determine if this item or that item was selected by the visitor while on another products page.

The next peice of this would be to track link activity from pages like; best sellers, featured items, category or departments pages. We use affiliateid's alot but the problem we see with that is the affiliateid changes.

    thanks, troy

As a basic manual method - Google Analytics site overlay.

Go to the pages you want to see with the correct time frame and then you can track who click on what and if any transactions happened. Also you can then again in Google Analytics ecommerce section view a transaction - thus you can see what they purchased.

Best I can think of now.
