this can cause SSL certificate issues, a lot of vendors when they issue an SSL is for 1 domain e.g. yourdomain.com or www.yourdomain.com just because you have purcahsed an SSL for www.yourdomain.com does not mean it will also secure yourdomain.com so thats why the WWWliveredirect is helpful making sure your customers are always on the www.yourdomain.com so that your ssl works properly.
Obviously if you have an EVSSL or a wildcard this will not apply to you.
