Thread: How to Limit cart to quantity on hand by Product

How can we restrict some products so that customers cannot put color/size combinations in their cart that are out of stock while allowing other products to be ordered, regardless of inventory levels? We have some items that we are going to re-order, so we want customer's to order them even if not in stock. But we have other items that we cannot re-order, so we only want to allow customer's to order specifically color and sizes that are still in stock for that item.

There's no way to do this 'out of the box', you're either restricting inventory or you're not. For the products you're going to be continuously re-ordering, you could just set the inventory levels to a falsely high number so the software always lets them sell. You'd have to have an external way to track inventory though.
