Default Cloud Hosting - Pros / Cons ?

Does anyone have any experience and opinions on "cloud hosting"? I am looking at putting a new site on ServerIntellect's new "cloud" environment. Any thoughts?

    Thx.

depending on your payment gateway there may be some pretty serious PCI implications with cloud hosting. generally the "lock that puppy down" attitude for retailer hosting doesn't coalesce with cloud serving.

Thats pretty much what I thought as well. I will have to call the merchant gateway provider to see if it is allowed or not.......

    Default Response From Moneris

Just confirmed from Moneris Canada that they have no objections whatsoever from their side on cloud hosting relating to PCI compliance. Moneris is known to be quite stingy on policy and rules so this is good to hear.

    One less issue.

    ....on to the next!

The gateway isn't generally going to have objections as long as the environment can be set up in a PCI-compliant way. The problem is, most clouds can't.

Rackspace for example, has documentation specifically stating that the only way to get PCI compliant in their environment is to use a 'boomerang' payment gateway, where customers pay off-site. Their environment can't meet the on-site payment requirements.
