    Default Gateway Recurring Billing Questions

I have a subscription order that will need to be billed monthly until the customer cancels or the credit card expires. I am using Authorize.Net as my gateway. After doing some research, Gateway Recurring Billing would do exactly what I want. According to the manual, I would be using silent post but I've read a few articles that I would also have to use ARB. Perhaps, someone should update the manual to make this much clearer.

From my understanding silent post is just the communication between authorize.net and the store. However, ARB is the key to re-billing the customer. Which means, if I have to use ARB, I would also have to subscribe to Authorize.Net's ARB plan ($10/month). Is this correct?

It says no where in the manual that ARB is required. It simply states that "If you are NOT using the Silent Post URL, you will need to set up Authorize.net to set you email ARB notices". Also the manual states that "to completely automate the process, configure your Silent Post URL in order to have the storefront automatically generate orders when Authorize.net performs the recurring charge. " Could I just use the SILENT POST and save myself $10/month? I'm confuse, please help. Thanks!

There are two ways to setup Gateway Recurring billing:

    1. To completely automate the process, you'll have to configure your Silent Post URL in order to have the aspdotnetstorefront automatically generate orders when Authorize.net performs the recurring charge.
    2. If you are NOT using the Silent Post URL, you will need to set up Authorize.net to set you email ARB notices. This is a sort of notification via email.

So, if you setup silent post url NO NEED for you to subscribe for their ARB email notifications. As for the ARB monthly charges, you'd need to directly contact authorize.net for that.

If I switch my recurring billing to 'gatewayinternalbilling' what happens to recurring orders that were set up before?

Pre-existing recurring orders will continue to function as they had before, as they're not tied to a gateway recurring billing order. Those would have to be canceled and restarted as a gateway recurring order if you wanted to process them the new way.

is there anyway to do recur billing but not recur order? Meaning i want to use the authorizet.net ARB more like a payment installment program for my customers so a customer buys an item for $100 I can use ARB to bill $25 each month for 4 months. Thanks.

    best regards,
