    Default Dedicated Server Quotes

I am talking with serverintellect about a dedicated setup.

Two questions maybe someone here can help me with.

    1. Server 2003 Standard SP2 or Server 2008?
    2. Is SQL Server 2008 Web ok?

Server Intellect has been great with their response and their prices seem very reasonable.

I actually thought they were a little pricey compared to others.
Prices are all over the place though

I have seen $300 and I have seen $79.00 for a basic dedicated server

I use Server intellect now for the aspdnsf hosting plan they have but I am looking for a dedicated now as well.

YOu have seen $79 for a dedicated server???

SI was right in the range of everyone else ive got quotes from, ive done 7 different places. SI stands out though because they have been EXTREMELY responsive.

http://www.rackmounted.com/ is $95 for the basic windows server

Server intellect is $249.00 for the basic windows server

http://www.hpchost.com/pages-Dedicated_Server.html is $57.00 for their basic windows server

I would probably sleep better using server intellect but not sure if I can justify over $1800 yearly difference in price

Im not sure how much volume your site does, but $1800 a year is a drop in the bucket if it keeps us up even 1 day a year more than these LOW price hosts. Dont get me wrong, these other places may be ok but I find it hard to believe they can be any good charging those prices for dedicated ... ive seen shared hosting at those prices.

Absolutely depends on the store volume I agree.
My store is a very small startup...
I just wanted a little faster page loads than a shared plan

SI gave me a good quote using Server 2003 and SQL Server 2005 express so it looks like I am going with that. The one thing I like compared to the much less expensive guys, is the fact they have people that answer the phones. Most of those other companies dont even have a phone

Agreed Caraj, SI has been very informative.

My only question now is what do I get or lack using server 2003 versus 2008.

They wrote on my quote either Server 2003 or 2008.
I read 2008 was much faster than 2003 so I may ask for that.

    2008 = IIS7, 2003 = IIS6

2008 is definitely a faster web hosting operating system. We're running 2008 on all of our own servers now.

Wink our si cost per month

    Processor Single Processor Quad Core Xeon 3220 - 2.40GHz (Kentsfield) - 2 x 4MB cache ($249.00)
    Memory 4 GB DDR2 667 ($40.00)
    Load Balanced Server No
    RAID Non-RAID ($0.00)
    Disk(s) HD 1: 250 GB SATA II ($0.00)
    HD 2: 250 GB SATA II ($0.00)
Uplink 1000 Mbps Public & Private Networks ($20.00)
    Bandwidth 2000 GB Bandwidth ($0.00)
IP Addresses 8 IP Addresses ($0.00)
    Operating System Windows Server 2003 Standard SP2 with R2 (32 bit) ($0.00)
Smarter Tools SmarterTools Suite (SmarterMail 5, SmarterStats 4, SmarterTrack 3) ($0.00)
Anti Virus McAfee VirusScan for Windows ($0.00)
Control Panel Centralized Helm 3 Website Control Panel ($0.00)
Enterprise Backup 40 GB Enterprise Backup ($40.00)
Database Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express ($0.00)
    Firewall Managed Firewall ($0.00)
    Firewall Notes N/A
    VPN Account(s) 1 VPN Accounts ($0.00)
    Extras N/A ($0.00)
    Monthly Total Cost $349.00

As you can see, it really depends on how much traffic you expect your site to have also the size of your site. We tried this basic package and felt and the site loaded to slow. But then again, we have around 30,000 products on our site at any given time. At the end of the SI might be a little bit more pricey, but there more than makes up for it. Nobody wants to go to a website that takes 5 minutes to load.
    Good Luck
