    Default Expanding product search

    The basic and advanced searches, seach.aspx and searchadv.aspx work great.

    But I would like to be able to customize it a bit.
    It searches product names and descriptions well, but I would like it to be able to associate similar or related words.
    For example, if a customer searches for cat, I would like to associate this search term with kitten and feline. Or to associate siamese with cat, kitten, feline.

    Is there a way to set up a table or list of associated words to improve the quality of search results for our products?

    While there's nothing like that currently built into the search functionality adding it wouldn't be terribly difficult. The simplest way to implement that would be to add a table for your associated terms, then cycle the search through both the native term and all of the associated terms.
