Thumbs down URL vs database/application name

If the application/database name of the site does not have the www should the URL be setup on the server the same way,(without the www), and have the www redirected? Or is it best for SEO purposes to have the site URL www.XXXX.com and redirect the XXXX.com?

    Thanks

Perhaps the AppConfig: RedirectToWWW could shed some light...

    Thumbs down

I have read the appconfig and set the redirect. My concern is that the application/database is set to the non XXXX.com and the URL on the server is www.XXXX.com. The redirect sends all of the XXXX.com to www.XXXX.com.
My ISP said this is not a problem, but seems like it might be for the SEO purposes.
