Post Enable upsell product checkbox by default

Is it possible to enable the upsell product checkbox by default? I am kind of using upsell product option for buy one get one free promotion with upsell discount percentage of 100. So now I would like to enable the checkbox when it is displayed as upsell product in main product page. Is it possible to implement? If its possible how can i achieve this? If i do this what are the causes I may face in this situation(I mean using upsell product option for Buy one get one free promotion)
Your help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a suggestion instead of using the upsell feature why not use instead the Requires Product feature which would add the product automatically once you add your main product in the cart and then set the price for this to 0. In this manner the product would be free since this is buy one get one promotion.

See the /XmlPackages/upsellproducts.xml.config and there you can set the input's checked property.

your suggestion is very good. I also agrees that. But we are selling that product separately also in the website. So we cant make the free product price to "0".

You may just add another product which has a different inventory where you would get your free item. In this manner you could isolate the product ID of your selling product(Price is X) from your Free Item(Price is 0).
