    can two separate instances of SF on IIS share the same sql db?

    Definitely. Simply tie the DBConn string of the web.config files of those sites to similar database and that's it.

    I would imagine that you would need to set the RedirectLiveToWWW appconfig to false as well. Otherwise it would redirect you from the secondary site the primary site.
