    Default Translation of String Resources

is there a flag in the database or a simple way to only extract the string resources that are being used in :
    1. Public Site (don't care about admin)
    2. Strings that are actually being used on the public site. (eliminating strings for features I am not using)

    Thanks

There's no way to do something like that automatically, no. You could follow these directions to have the site display the string names so you can note the ones to translate and only do those, but you're likely to spend as much time doing that as you would just translating it all.
