Default Turn off cart for major updates but leve site up?

OK, this software is new to me and I am trying to learn it all in a very short time frame... That said, I need to know how to turn off the cart while leaving the site up while we do a major update to all our pricing.

What do you say? Can you help a newbie out?

If you do I will post some cool pictures of Star Wars stuff... LOL

Sure. Go to the appconfig and set WholesaleOnlySite to true, Configuration -> Advanced -> Appconfig Parameters. Any customers (e.g. anonymous, registered but not a member of customer levels) won't be able to see product prices and add to cart button when viewing the site.

ok, let me make sure I am following you here...

Are you saying I go to "View/Edit AppConfigs" and change "WholesaleOnlySite" to true or are you saying I need to go "Configuration -> Advanced -> Appconfig Parameters" cuz I am not seeing anything that says Configuration.

Am I in the wrong place???

Like I said I got thrown into this after our web devoloper was let due to breach of contract and I really dont know anything about this software...

For a more full proof method (so that no buy now buttons show for anyone) you can set the AppConfig for ShowBuyButtons to 'false'. Then there will be no 'Buy it now' buttons shown altogether, no matter what customer level, etc. You could then put a message on the homepage that you're currently doing maintenance on the site.
