Default Shipping VAT issue - Royal Mail/Courier

    Hi,

My client wants to use both Royal Mail and a courier service to ship goods. However Royal Mail deliveries are VAT Exempt, couriers are not.

Also, RM advised that the general practice is to charge VAT on delivery ONLY if there are VATable goods in the shipment. No VAT is charged on delivery if all the goods in the shipment are VAT exempt.

    This sounds odd to me.

Any other UK storebuilders that can advise what they do?

    Thanks

Royal Mail don't charge you - the retailer any VAT.
But....... as you're reselling a service (carriage/shipping/handling/post/packing) - you MUST charge the customer VAT.
